Specialist early education nursery pilot launched 7th September 2022 In an exciting step for our Early Years’ service, yesterday we were delighted to launch our specialist early education nursery provision as a pilot, and welcomed our first children through the doors at our Bromley site. The children spent the day getting to know their new friends and trying out all of the toys and activities on offer at the nursery. The rate of school exclusion is 5 times higher for children with SEN. By providing children with the right individualised support in their formative pre-school years we can change this national picture – preparing children to access and enjoy learning, by equipping them with the skills and confidence they need to make a successful start to their education. Our nursery pilot comes after recognising a gap in provision for pre-school autistic children. However, this is only part of the picture, and we know that primary schools need training and support to successfully include autistic children and to ensure that school placement breakdown is reduced. We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the pilot.
