Tuffley Primary School is a one-form entry primary school. The school has an integrated specialist unit, the C and I centre, for 20 pupils with specific speech, language and/or social communication difficulties. All these pupils have a Statement of SEND (from September 2014 an Education, Health and Care Plan) and are offered a place in the Centre by the Local Authority. The children access specialist therapeutic and educational work in the Centre, helping them to develop key communication skills and access a full curriculum. The centre is part of the school and the children join the mainstream for assemblies, playtimes, lunch and celebrations and special days and helps to integrate individuals into their mainstream classes as often and as soon as each individual is ready. The Centre staff support children throughout the school from Foundation Stage and in both Key Stages 1 and 2 through sharing expertise and knowledge with the mainstream school, facilitating reverse integration and working closely with the SENDCO.
