Karen Sorab, Founder and Chair of Trustees of BeyondAutism, awarded an honorary OBE for services to education

We are delighted to announce that Karen Sorab, Founder and Chair of Trustees, has been awarded an honorary OBE for services to education.

Karen founded BeyondAutism (then Rainbow Charity) in 2000 along with a group of fellow parents as there were no autism specific schools locally at that time. From its inception Karen drove the growth of the school and the charity and transformed it from a small classroom for 3 pupils into the successful and highly regarded ABA education charity it is today. Karen worked voluntarily as the Chief Executive of BeyondAutism from its conception until September 2015, and now sits as Chair of Trustees.

Karen said of her award: “I am honoured and humbled to be granted this award. It is a tribute to all of our staff who work tirelessly day after day to deliver an outstanding education to our students. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to the growth and success of our charity. Most of all I am exceptionally proud of the achievements of all of our students both past and present, they never cease to amaze me and they make everything worthwhile.”

We are immensely proud of Karen’s award as it highlights the progress that the charity has made under her close supervision and the impact that this has had on the lives of countless young people with autism and their families.
