Sheffield Growing Experience provides gardening and conservation activities for young people and adults with learning disabilities. Activities include sowing seeds, transplanting plants, harvesting, picking apples, weeding, making bird boxes, picking flowers and more. It provides people with learning disabilities the opportunity to work as a supported volunteer on a 12-acre site, where they grow fruit, vegetables and flowers, and offers the chance to learn skills in a real work environment, to gain valuable work experience (in preparation for a job) or to further a leisure interest in growing one’s own food or flowers.
