New sensory playground for Park House School

29th July 2022

Recently, we received a generous grant from Morrison’s Foundation to install a sensory playground at Park House School to help the children’s learning and development.

The work began during half-term with astro turf flooring going down before the team installed a climbing frame and slide for the pupils to enjoy.

Play and exploration are hugely important in a young child’s development and emotional wellbeing. Play is the foundation for developing communication and language, essential skills that they can build upon throughout their education. The new playground encourages the development of fine and gross motor skills and prompts for creative and imaginative play. It will be a crucial tool for our Occupational Therapy Team when working the learners at Park House.

“The new playground has provided a multitude of opportunities for Park House School pupils. They have enjoyed watching the progression of the playground being built and since it’s unveiling has been a favourite activity for pupils across the school.

The playground has encouraged positive interactions between pupils, helping to building relationships with peers as well as working on turn taking, waiting and a large variety of occupational and speech and language therapy targets.

We couldn’t imagine Park House School without it!” Sarah Dominic, Deputy Head of Park House School.

Since it’s installation, it has been wonderful to see pupils engaging and having fun with the new equipment which will be a central component for teaching at Park House School for years to come.
